8:49am: Because my life is consumed by two white demons
Might as well put up a post about them. Or well a post that points to a website about them.

1:52pm: Wasn't Bush going bring integrity back to the Presidency?
I guess that really doesn't extend to all of the executive branch, though it would be startling if there was one ethical section of the executive branch.

The Interior Department agency that collects oil and gas royalties has been caught up in a wide-ranging ethics scandal — including allegations of financial self-dealing, accepting gifts from energy companies, cocaine use and sexual misconduct.

Sounds like the place to work.  But no, the Bush administration is not too cozy with the oil companies, the just are sleeping together.

7:56am: The real horrors of a recession
This article show those really tragically hurt by the bad economy.  It is hard not to feel for these people who can not longer meet their basic needs.  What will happen to their self esteem?

2:44pm: I don't usually do memes, but ...
The rules are easy: just post six things that recently made you happy. Then tag six other people and ask them to post this meme on their LJs.

1. Seeing Nike (my 15 year old husky with geriatric vestibular syndrome) start chasing Killer (my cat) again.

2. Planning the first ski trip of the winter.

3. Seeing my wife's face when she came home after I spend my day off cleaning the house.

4. The rain.

5. A new 18v cordless drill.

6. Finding a way to ground a wall socket in mom's house (this was needed so the medical equipment people would leave the equipment that mom's husband needs so he can finally leave the hospital).

Since I have a thing against chain letters and emails, I can't bring myself to tagging anyone.  But if anyone who reads this wants to do it, they can still blame me.

7:41am: I was in Australia last month
Flew into Sydney, traveled around Queensland, and sailed a boat thru the Whitsunday islands.  If you are interested here are the pictures.

Edit:  I forgot to give credit, the narration was done by my wife.

8:17am: To go along with blackbyrd2's post, prayers have no affect on patient recoveries, and maybe they hurt recoveries.

8:02am: UCI liver transplant unit lets patients die
This is incredible. The University of California system that has schools such as UCLA and Berkley, just got an severe black mark. The liver transplant unit at the University of Irvine has been turning down livers and letting patients die. It seems that the person who was running the unit preferred to do elective surgeries instead of transplants and drove other doctors away, here is one of the articles . Over 90% of the livers offered to UCI were getting turned down. I wonder if he can be tried for murder?

9:23am: If it weren't for Darwin, Hitler would have never come into power
That's right, it came from a Christian museum and the religious right knows everything. At the Institute for Creation Research museum in Santee, a San Diego suburb, there are placards that say Darwin "came at just the right time to be the catalyst for a revival of ancient paganism" and that evolution birthed Communism, racism and Nazism.

It seems like these creationist museums are propagating, like a bad rash. But without them we wouldn't know that dinosaurs were in the garden of eden (they were all vegetarians until Adam and Eve got thrown out), and there were a pair of dinosaurs on Noah's ark (I'm not sure where in the Bible those tidbits are from, but good Christians wouldn't lead us a stray). To learn more about these amazing museums, here is a recent article from the Los Angeles Times.

If you are interested you can find them here .

17th July 2005

12:24pm: Back from Africa
Well I made it to the peak, and had a wonderful safari. Here is a picture from the safari (a website is coming, but I need to go thru the 500 pictures, so don't hold your breath).

8:13am: The adventure is about to begin
On Monday I leave for Africa. If anyone is interested here is the itinerary )

15th February 2005

8:07am: Well it is finalized, I'm going to Africa in July.
My wife and I have been working on this trip for months. We will be hiking Kilimanjaro and taking a safari to Tarangire Nation Park, the Serengeti, and Ngorongoro crater. We are very excited. But this means for the next four months we need to seriously prepare for Kilimanjaro, hiking every weekend without fail.

9:10am: Not surprised
People in other countries think the world is more dangerous because Bush was re-elected. . Now with Rice as the number one diplomat, it isn't going to get any better. I can't see how someone as arrogant as her can "mend ties with our allies."
Current Mood: discontent

10th December 2004

12:00pm: Off to Tahoe and a week of skiing
You all be good now, yea hear!
8:11am: I thought this was funny, and believable.

8:52am: Interested in the Incas, here are photos from a trip to Peru
My photos </br>
The trip was in 2000. I spent several days in Cuzco and 14 days hiking thru the Andes, ending up in Choquequirau. It was a great trip.

3rd December 2004

9:49am: Nothing like good customer service.
This was nothing like good customer service. I have Verizon DSL. The basic package includes 10 megs of web space. Most of that was taken up by two trips and I wanted to put up pictures from another trip, plus pictures from my house remodeling.

So I went to Verizon's DSL website and went thru the add web space links, and added 100 meg to my space. Then I went into the webpage builder to upload pictures and all the webpages and pictures were gone.

I called customer service and found out that I'm not the first one this has happened to, and there was nothing they can do to get back the files. So I asked for some monetary compensation for my troubles and they told me that that Verizon Online only gets $2.50 of the cost of the DSL and they were willing to credit me for three months, a whole $7.50. Then they passed me to Verizon Data Services who gets $30 a month for providing the DSL line. They told me that it was Verizon Online problem not theirs. When I said that they are all "Verizon" and should be working together to satisfy their customers, I got again that it isn't their problem, talk to someone else. And this all took almost two hours, most on hold. Big corporations are so much fun!
Current Mood: pissed off

1st December 2004

4:23pm: I guess I got to start somewhere
Ok, here it is. Nothing much, but what did you expect. Hello to all that pass by.
